PANTERA

Regarded as one of the best and most well respected metal bands of all time, Pantera has become a huge part of my life and the primary influence in my music. From what originally was a hair metal band quickly turned into heavy metal architects with the addition to Phil Anselmo on vocals in 1986. With only self produced albums during the 80s, their first studio produced album with a record label in 1990 changed the world of metal for ever.

The smooth, rhythmic and groove elements from the 1990 album “Cowboys From Hell”, the heavier, aggressive sound on the 1992 album “Vulgar Display of Power”, and the faster, even heavier sound from the 1994 album “Far Beyond Driven” which debuted at #1 on the billboard top 200, Pantera became one of the greatest metal acts in history. Metal lived through Pantera in the 90s, and they became one of the greatest influences for modern metal. The greatest thing about these albums to me, is that they were ahead of their time, production wise as well as the musicianship. They are everything that metal should be.

Pantera has what I consider an all-star line up: The two brothers in Vinnie Paul Abbott and “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, Rex Brown and Phillip Anselmo. Dimebag is considered one of the greatest guitar players of all time, as well as widely perceived as the greatest metal guitarist ever. And Phillip Anselmo, who is my vocal idol, had some of the most aggressive vocals in the game. With the passing of both brothers, Dimebag in 2004 and Vinnie in 2018, a Pantera reunion is now impossible. But the mark that their music made will forever be left with us, and there is no doubt that they will one day be inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. There will never be another Pantera.
