I would like tell everyone at IAIJ as we deal with this pandemic called Covid19, that I, the Board of Directors and the staff at IAIJ will continue to do the work that needs to be done and support our membership in these trying times. Like many modern day organizations, IAIJ can be run at home thorough laptops and smart phones if need be. Having said that, our collective hearts and concerns go out to our members in areas of the world particularly hit hard by this pandemic. As journalists we may want to report on events as they happen in our communities, but remember to be smart, be safe and use your head when going about your lives in these unusual circumstances.
Follow your government’s health care officer's advice as each country and community’s circumstances are unique so no one strategy is good for all. But some things are universal such as good hygiene by washing hands and using hand sanitizer if that is all available. Keep more distance between you and others and discourage things like social handshakes and kissing, which could transmit the coronavirus. Protect the most vulnerable in your society by doing all the preventative measures to delay the spread of the virus to decrease the strain on your health care system.
There will be plenty of opportunity to write and talk about this pandemic when it is over. Until then keep yourself and loved ones and all those in your community top of your mind and be a help and not a hindrance at this moment in time.
My thoughts are with all of you, take care and stay safe!
