President Of India Inaugurates Mass Yoga Event To Commemorate The International Yoga Day

New Delhi (IAIJ):The President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated a mass Yoga event at Rashtrapati Bhavan to commemorate the International Yoga Day on June 21.

Speaking on the occasion, the President conveyed his best wishes to all on International Yoga Day. He said that India is the home of Yoga where it was practiced over centuries. One of the most important teachers of Yoga was Yoga Guru Patanjali. He stated that Yoga is both an art and a science. It has amazing curative as well as preventive powers for the well-being of humanity and for the management of many modern lifestyle related disorders. He expressed his happiness that many residents of Rashtrapati Bhavan have been practicing Yoga for a long period of time. He was also happy to see that the employees and residents are participating enthusiastically to commemorate the International Yoga Day.

Around 1000 residents and staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President’s Body Guard, the Army Guard, ITBP and the Delhi Police participated in the mass Yoga event. The event was organized in collaboration with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India). Yoga practice classes were also conducted for residents of the President’s Estate from June 1 to 20, 2015 in preparation for the International Yoga Day.

Prime Minister's Remarks At International Conference On Yoga For Holistic Health

New Delhi (IAIJ):The Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi described Yoga as a journey from "Aham to Vayam; Sva to Samasti." (I to we; Self to Universe). He said that if we perceive our human body to be a unique creation, then Yoga is similar to a "user manual" that made one aware of the immense capabilities of that creation.

In his remarks at the International Conference on Yoga for holistic health, on the occasion of the first International Day of Yoga, the Prime Minister described Yoga as a "state of mind," (avasthaa), as opposed to being a commodity or a system (vyavasthaa). He said that the solidarity being expressed through Yoga, in the coming together with brothers and sisters in other countries, brings our hearts and minds closer.

This support is not just for India, but for the great tradition of Yoga, the Prime Minister noted. He described Yoga as a means to achieve harmony with oneself, one's body, surroundings and nature. He said that when practiced correctly and with discipline, Yoga leads to greater fulfilment in life.

The Prime Minister said that as the world united in celebrating the International Day of Yoga, there would be a lot of expectations, regarding Yoga, and India stands ready to the shoulder the responsibility of these expectations, for the greater good of the world.

The Prime Minister described Yoga is a collective gift to humanity. He added that it may have originated in India, but it draws its energies from the millions who practice it around the world. He reiterated India's resolve to reach out and foster a culture of inclusiveness, of fraternity, of one global family – Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

The Prime Minister also released commemorative coins and a stamp, to mark the occasion of the first International Day of Yoga.

The Minister for AYUSH (I/C) Mr. Shripad Yesso Naik, the Minister of State for Finance Mr. Jayant Sinha, and Yoga exponents Shri Baba Ramdev, Dr. Nagendra and Dr. Veerendra Heggade were present on the occasion.




Yoga Steps Into Guinness World Records

New Delhi (IAIJ):The Ministry of AYUSH has been awarded with two Guinness World Records in two different categories on the first International Day of Yoga.

Category 1 was for the largest number of participants in a Yoga Lesson at single venue. The earlier record was of 29,973. To beat that record a target of 30,000 was required. The Ministry broke that record as 35,985 participants performed Yoga at Rajpath today morning (June 21).

Category 2 was most number of nationalists in a Yoga Lesson. To achieve this at least participants from 50 countries were required to perform. But today (June 21) participants from 84 countries performed Yoga at Rajpath.

Mr. Shripad Yesso Naik. MoS(I/C). Ministry of AYUSH and Secretary AYUSH received the awards which were presented by the representatives of Guinness World Records Ms. Victoria from UK and Mr. Marco Frigatti from Italy.

Speaking on the occasion the Minister expressed his gratitude towards the officials of the Ministry for making the programme of Rajpath a great success and efforts made towards achieving two world records.

Also present on the occasion were Yoga Gurus, Mr. Guru Malladi, coordinator of EY Company and senior officials of the Ministry.
