Protest Against Canada's Bill C-51
By Dave Getchell (Canada)
On Saturday, March 14 in Toronto (Canada) I attended the rally at City Hall to protest Bill C-51 (an anti-terrorism bill tabled by the Federal Conservative Party of Canada in Canada's House of Commons). I believe in freedom and I do not believe that there is a large terrorist threat out there that some would like create through our own mistrust and segregation. Logic should guide our choices and we need to stop our war based economy and activity.
There were a number of signs there, "Reject Fear" was to me the most prevalent message of the day. Many had their own groups and issues and did not want their rights and freedoms further imposed upon, there was much anti-Harper (Prime Minister Stephen Harper) sentiment but almost all the people there were opposed to this bill.
The day was damp, many there were a bit nervous about being known, emotions from some of the speakers and attendees ran high. My favorite message from the protest is one you should remember:
"More are likely killed by Moose than Terrorists"
Representatives from the Federal Conservative Party were unavailable for comment.
Here are a number of photos of people and their messages:
