Egyptian Democracy Protest In Toronto!
By Ainsley Wronski
Here are some photos of a pro-democracy Egyptian protest at Yonge Dundas Square, on this day January 29, 2011 in Toronto:
It looked like mostly an informal gathering but police were there and a couple of well known (to IAIJ) groups like the "Toronto Coalition To Stop The War" protest groups who have held protests in Toronto for the past several years.
The demonstrations were against the oppressive regime of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt. Social media sites like Facebook were a crucial part in the coordination of the massive demonstrations that have, so far, left many protestors dead. In Toronto we pegged the crowd at about 2000 who gathered in support of the protests in Egypt. Also of note were the Communist groups for Iran who demonstrated their cause on the other side of the street from Yonge Street. They also had a few placards for the oust of Mubarak (a pro-western dictator) hopefully seeing the change going communist in their eyes.
