Breath Holding And The Strangling Game ...

By Dave Getchell, Musician and Journalist

Breath holding and the strangling game have become a recent (and past) fear in the hearts of parents. My son, Zachary, was at the mall with some friends, when a breath-holding contest ensued. Zack lost consciousness and fell and hit his head. A bone was broken in his skull and an artery compromised, if he were anywhere else in the world, he may have died, but “Sick Kids” and “Mt. Sinai” Hospitals saved his life with no apparent damage to his Brain (Bless them!).

I have, in my youth, participated in equally stupid and dangerous contests, but please be aware that your life is precious and “stuff” happens!

A deprivation of O2 can be a fairly fast route to death or near death or even worse, brain damage or loss of mobility, or your senses.

Love Life, be Creative and Stay Safe, Please

Dave Getchell, Father of 3
