ENG Internet Video!

By Maurice Ali, Journalist

One of our biggest problems from the early days of this organization, was how to get real video news to the internet. We are making progress in that direction today as we try to give our viewers true ENG (electronic news gathering) through the internet.

This will be a work in progress report and to start you can view this file of our lovely Emily:

I was also quickly forced (by fellow members) to take the moment and post some video action of the reception I reported on last Friday:

Here is one that I am very proud of; our Word On The Street Video (slightly abridged due to the large size of the file):

That one genuine ENG segment marks another step up in our little organization. Now we can show video of our news events and probably beat the others to it! This is a big deal to me!

The problem still remains how to shorten the download time. The streaming does not work. We could cut up the segment into smaller parts with smaller download times. Still more work needs to be done.

We also have problems with mac users and the quicktime conversion ate up all the space on the disc (the smaller one - another problem). AVIs are too large to download.....

I had to get an external hard drive to edit our film footage. I had no choice but to spend the money. The drives now go up to 300GIG - but all I could find was 160GIG..... This keeps my old computer relevant for just a little while longer and still leaves the option for PC or G5 later when we must make the computer upgrade.. Also, the external hard drive is useful when we need the extra space - even if it is eventually relegated to the secondary support computer, still a useful component. You have no idea how much I worry over every purchase; I have other things to do with my money, but if we need a component to keep a project moving ahead.....then I spend the money. We spent the cash to get professional quality equipment (most of the time, sometimes like the firewire card - you get some cheap components and software for free - a mixed bag there.....)) and we do this the best we can. The hard drive was just a two and not three tender comparison but I have little time..... More as it unfolds.....

Here is another clip of emily and Punita:

TaDa!

Our first on-line music video! This one is Michael singing a song at the picnic. Dave will have to wait as his song has to be copyrighted along with other material:

So the editing program works. The new computers should stop all those annoying glitches ar "dropouts" that are in all of the above segments; they were the result of a bottleneck in my slow P3 computer. The next batch of clips and the TV show now await!
